Nav Aastha
The education group has been working in the field of:

  1. Remedial education for school dropouts and poor children studying in government-schools.
  2. Adult education for women in Delhi, and undertrials in the Tihar prison.
  3. Child education by running pre-school for children of under-privileged families in Delhi.

Different programs under Nav Aastha teach children of ages 1-19 years, taking special care of their academic levels.

A word from the director

Our very first education centre for children was started for children of construction laborers in Rajouri Garden, Delhi. It is very sad to see little children with runny noses, dirty matted hair, and without any shoes taking care of their younger siblings. We found a volunteer to teach such kids for 3-4 hours every day.

The computer education group:

  1. Runs two centers – one in the Tihar jail and the other in West Delhi.
  2. The Tihar center educates undertrials, some of who have been able to find computer-related jobs in private companies on their release from the prison.
  3. The West Delhi center is spreading computer awareness among people of low-income group by running courses of 3-6 month duration in multimedia, DTP, accounting, etc.
A word from the director

Functional literacy to computer literacy was a conscious decision me made. We observed that on one hand, a portion of Delhi’s population survives without any education. On the other, a large group thinks they cannot survive without computer education. Our efforts are aimed at helping to bridge this digital divide.
Our computer education program started in 1998. The Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, invited us to help them take computer education to school dropouts living in slums and resettlement colonies. Scope Plus identified such students in and around areas of Delhi, along with the local computer centres. Scope Plus opened its own computer education centre in the Tihar jail, Delhi, for teaching prison inmates.

The production group undertakes following activities:

  1. Production and marketing of paper products, cloth products, stationery items, and jute bags.
  2. Training in production and marketing to children, women, school dropouts, college students, and organizations.
  3. Job work and fabrication for exporters and wholesale dealers.
A word from the director

While teaching prison inmates and women living in slums, a demand was surfacing for economic empowerment. We had to force people to study. All they wanted was to earn some money. We, at Scope Plus, are committed to need-based programs for the community. The demand from the community took us on a path of no return, and we started our production units. Today, Scope Plus is known for its eco-friendly affordable products. Our objective was to make products for mass consumption, and rightly so, all our products can be used by students/teachers/housewifes/corporations, etc.

A word from the director

  1. Social and vocational awareness building and training
  2. Counseling on legal issues. Also acts as an interface between people and police.
A word from the director

This is our social sensitization project. Scope Plus’ core team is of people who are socially minded and socially sensitive. We try to impart the knowledge, skill and information that we possess to others. To achieve this, we visit educational institutions, slums and communities, give talks and presentations, talk to people to understand their problems and suggest solutions, and take up counseling for the needy. Resource people from all walks of life contribute in this endeavour. Over last eight years, we have managed to reach and touch lives of about 2000 people in Delhi.

Nav Shakti
The women empowerment group works toward empowering women by making them self-sufficient by providing work, teaching vocational skills and sensitizing them on women’s issues. This reaches out to the women of Tihar employees who:

  1. Learn and earn by making paper bags and folders in our production center at the Tihar Employees Welfare Association (TEWA) in New Delhi.
  2. Participate in various awareness talks held by professionals, which opens up their minds and outlook.
A word from the director

“Nav Shakti” means New Energy or Power. That’s what we manage to provide our women by empowering them with knowledge - adult education, and making them financially independent – by giving them work in our production units. Women are given awareness classes and training to make eco-friendly products. Most of our women are housewives who want to earn while sitting at home.

Nav Muskaan
We provide counseling and guidance to the inmates of Tihar Jail, Delhi, with the help of three trainee social workers from Aditi Mahila College, New Delhi. They visit the jails # 4, 5 and 6 regularly, and inform the director of Scope Plus of any extra help and guidance that may be required for some inmates. The director works with the superintendent and welfare officer of the jail and arranges for further help and action. We also provide these services to the employees of the jail and their families.

A word from the director

Counselling and guidance has been an integral part of Scope Plus. We guide and refer cases to doctors, counsellors, psychologists, the police, lawyers, other NGOs, governmental departments, and hospitals, etc. Our new project for 2005 is more focused and intensive. We plan to open a counselling unit in the jail for inmates.
